What you can expect in our F1 graduate jobs

A williams f1 car on the track

At Atlassian Williams Racing, our F1 graduate jobs give you more than just a foot in the door. From day one, our graduates are in the fast lane, contributing to teams that push for progress every week, whether that means designing new components, refining simulations, or getting the race team ready.

Each graduate pathway is fuelled by a common goal of creating the winning formula that drives our team forward. If you’re considering graduate jobs in F1, here’s exactly what you can expect when you join our early careers programme

How our F1 graduate schemes work

Our programmes usually run for two years, sometimes three, depending on the department. They kick off every September with a full induction and a chance to meet your graduate cohort. Depending on the specific role, you’ll then shift into one of two lanes, namely:

  • A rotational scheme: Gaining experience across different departments
  • A specialist scheme: Building deep expertise within one department

From the outside, graduate jobs in F1 teams can look similar. What makes our schemes stand out is how quickly you’ll get to make real impact and how much support you’ll have along the way. Our graduates get stuck into real projects and learn how Formula 1 works from the inside.

Exploring our graduate schemes in F1

We’re on a mission to return to winning championships, and developing the best and brightest talent will help us get there. Here’s a look at a selection of the F1 graduate schemes we offer and how they play a part in achieving our goals.

F1 graduate jobs in engineering

Engineering is the beating heart of any Formula 1 team, and our graduates play a direct role in our pursuit of points. From Day 1, our F1 graduate engineers get involved with projects across:

  • Chassis, Bodywork and Wings: Designing aerodynamic and structural components
  • Suspensions, Steering and Brakes: Developing the systems that connect the car to the track
  • Powertrain: Working on high-performance systems that deliver power and reliability
  • Structures: Ensuring designs meet safety standards while maximising performance
  • Materials: Testing and characterising composites and metals for efficiency
  • Electronics, Software and Controls: Building and integrating systems that process data and support the car

Our graduate engineers can see their impact from Day 1. Aaliyah Ascroft, Graduate Design Engineer, told us about her first ‘pinch me’ moment:

“It’s simply seeing some of the parts I’ve helped to get on the car. That was probably the first big feeling of: ‘Yeah, I’m actually doing this!’ It’s really awesome to be involved and to have that connection to the trackside.”

Jack McGleish, another Design Engineer Graduate, shared the same sense of pride in playing a role in delivering our on-track improvements:

“Working at Atlassian Williams Racing has been an incredible experience. Each day, I’m tasked with designing high performance components and given the creative freedom to solve challenges. It’s very rewarding seeing your efforts on the car!”

Graduate jobs in F1 vehicle dynamics and tyre science

Vehicle dynamics is where data meets performance. If you’re interested in using physics and simulations to chip away at lap times, this is where you’ll find your place. Graduates in this space help model and predict how the car will behave before it touches the track.

In these F1 graduate schemes, you could:

  • Develop and refine tyre models that replicate behaviour under race conditions
  • Use tools like MATLAB and Python to improve simulations
  • Support Driver-in-the-Loop testing and correlate results with real-world data
  • Help engineers make setup decisions with greater accuracy

Our culture means you’ll always have your team in your corner. Samuel Elijah, who joined as an Aerodynamics Graduate, highlights just how far this support goes:

“Everyone says the best thing about Williams is the people. I’ll do one better by saying it’s not just the people, it’s the desire of the people around you to see you succeed.”

Technology graduate jobs in F1

Today’s Formula 1 landscape is increasingly shifting toward a data-centric approach

The work of our Technology & Innovation Group (TIG) might not always be as brightly spotlit as that of our mechanics and engineers, but without it, we simply couldn’t go racing.

For graduates passionate about coding, systems, or AI, joining TIG is a chance to apply those skills in one of the most competitive environments in the world. Opportunities here include:

  • Developing software systems used daily across engineering
  • Building data pipelines to process performance information
  • Enhancing enterprise systems for speed, efficiency, and reliability

Operations and business graduate jobs in F1

Operations keep our teams ticking over behind the scenes. Graduates here see how components are made and delivered to track on time, while sustainability roles focus on embedding environmentally responsible practices across the business. Business graduates join the Commercial, Marketing, HR, or Finance teams, delivering long-term impact that’s felt in all corners of the organisation.

Holly May, Business Graduate, explained:

I love getting to work in a company where everyone has the same goal. Getting to see everyone’s passion for the team and their drive for us to succeed has been amazing. Starting at Atlassian Williams Racing on a graduate scheme has been a great opportunity to work in such an exciting and fast-paced industry so early in my career.”
