Working within the Aerodynamics department, the individual will work in the model shop as part of a highly professional and ambitious team. Manufacturing and testing high quality 60% model scale parts to test in our industry leading Wind Tunnel. 

The Model Maker – Shift Lead is responsible for the preparation, assembly, and deliver of the wind tunnel programme. This requires a flexible approach to tasks and changing priorities, and an ability to copy with the varying demands of different Aerodynamic departments and stakeholders. The Model Maker – Shift Lead is responsible for maintaining the smooth running of the Department, and keeping the team proactive and motivated between the varying shift patterns and keeping all well informed. The role purpose is to ensure the department is always ready for aerodynamic testing, working closely with Model Design/Aero and Aero Test Facilities to help achieve this. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manufacture and test model parts for the wind tunnel   

  • Conversant with metrology applications  

  • Good knowledge of building mechanical assembly’s  

  • Working closely with Model Design/Aero and Aero Test Facilities  

  • Keep full traceability of all parts on the Model(s) and within the Departments 

  • Ensure the pre-fit model is kept in a state of readiness for pre-fitting and is responsible for pre-fit sign off 

  • To act as point of contact and manage the workshop resource schedule in team leader’s absence 

  • Maintain responsibility for model builds and mapping session roll backs 

  • Work closely with the Aero Design Team to identify areas for improvement that would provide faster model change times whilst maintaining model part quality 

  • Conversant with Excel collecting data for performance target. 

  • Managing team holidays and schedule cover within the production plan. 

  • Raises faults in the Aero faults system so they can be closed in a timely manner 

  • Always be open and assist in identifying improvements within the Aero Production Process 

  • Maintain positive relationships with all other factory departments. 

  • To role model behaviours in line with the company policies and procedures, for example; Health & Safety 

  • Maintain high standard of staff and department presentation, as appropriate for a showcase facility visited by potential sponsors and other VIPs 

Core Skills and Experience:  

  • Strong knowledge of standard IT packages (Microsoft etc.) 

  • Strong project management skills 

  • Previous working experience as a Model Maker within an F1 team  

  • Ability to take initiative and respond quickly and effectively to problems 

  • Flexible approach to working hours at busier times of the year in the car programme 

  • Strong attention to detail  

  • Competent under pressure 

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with team members well 

  • Appreciation of confidentiality 

Please note, this role may be expected to complete alternative or additional duties from time to time as required by the needs of the business, at the discretion of the management team.  

Night shift working patter is 6pm-6am Monday-Thursday.
