Working as part of our cutting-edge CFD group as a Senior CFD Methodology Engineer with a key focus on OpenFOAM development. In this role you will work at the core of our simulation tools, directly developing and optimising our OpenFOAM software stack. Your contributions will shape our future CFD capabilities through implementing new models, enhancing solver performance, and maintaining a high-quality, robust codebase.
This role involves close collaboration with CFD Team and Aerodynamicists to develop innovative methodologies that expand our simulation toolkit, improve correlation, and provide continuous performance gains. We're looking for a strong communicator with excellent attention to detail, a passion for technical excellence, and a drive to go beyond expectations. You’ll be joining a highly capable, supportive team that values openness, creativity, and continuous learning.

Hands-on development of our OpenFOAM software stack with a focus on solver optimisation.
Continual development of our CFD capability, for example developing mesh recipes; turbulence model implementation and tuning; numerical solver optimisation for ATR efficiency; thermal modelling; and introducing new technologies.
Explore and assess new and emerging technologies, including benchmarking GPU-accelerated solvers, and optimizing the linear solver performance of emerging GPU codes.
Collaborate with the CFD Team to integrate new methodologies into the process stack.
Collaborate with Aerodynamicists and the CFD Team to develop methodologies to improve correlation.
Ensure methodologies and codes are rigorously proven, maintained to a high standard, follow best practice, and are well documented.
Guide and mentor members of the CFD team instilling Williams’ core values.
Work with users of the CFD process to solve problems, offer at-elbow support, and identify future improvements to process.

Fulfil all organisational expectations, including but not limited to the following:
Understand and work in line with Williams Values & Behaviours, encouraging others to do the same.
Ensure understanding of and compliance with health and safety obligations.
Maintain personal high standards of behaviour and conduct, being a positive ambassador for the department.

Qualifications and Experience Level:
Masters’ or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, with a strong focus on CFD.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar CFD role, ideally in F1, or within the motorsport industry.
Deep understanding of CFD fundamentals including meshing, numerical methods, turbulence modelling, and solver technology.
Proven experience in OpenFOAM software development using C++, including implementation of custom models and solvers.
Proficient in Linux shell scripting, Python, C#, and SQL.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to document work clearly and share knowledge effectively.
Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
Experience of mentoring and support of peers and junior team members.
Comfortable in a user-facing role.
