Williams F1 Team is seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to play a key role in the development, verification and validation of advanced car systems. This role offers the opportunity to shape test capability, drive engineering quality, and directly contribute to performance on track.
About the Role
As a Senior Test Engineer, you will design, commission and deliver a wide range of complex tests across multiple platforms. Working closely with engineering teams across the business, you will enhance development speed, improve reliability, and introduce new test methods and tools that support our continuous improvement objectives.
You will lead major projects, support off‑site validation programmes, and help evolve our approach to data analysis, test methodology and high‑performance rig capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality test design, commissioning and execution across platforms including HiL transmission, VTT dyno, brake dyno, eight‑post rig, cooling, fuel systems and structural test rigs.
- Lead the development of new test capability to support system development and hardware verification.
- Define technical requirements for engineering design, control systems and data acquisition.
- Manage complex engineering projects, ensuring quality, timely delivery and budget alignment.
- Represent the department at off‑site tests such as FIA crash testing, K&C, CofG and other development events.
- Enhance data handling, telemetry and reporting tools for real‑time and post‑event analysis.
- Work with engineering teams to optimise development loops, test methodology and validation processes.
- Provide technical direction and support for Test Engineers and Technicians.
- Promote high standards of safety, quality and continuous improvement.
For almost 50 years, Williams F1 Team has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.
Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.
About You
You will bring:
- Specialist knowledge in designing and delivering complex test methods and capability, ideally used in Formula One or similar high‑performance environments.
- Strong ability to build validation plans, test methodologies and development strategies.
- Solid analytical skills and the ability to apply theoretical and practical engineering techniques.
- Experience with advanced test rig control systems, instrumentation and data acquisition.
- Proven ability to manage complex engineering projects with schedule, budget and resource constraints.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
- A methodical, solutions‑focused approach to engineering challenges.
Why Join Us?
At Williams F1 Team, you will work at the forefront of high‑performance engineering, within a team committed to innovation, technical excellence and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to introduce new capability, influence development processes and make a measurable contribution to the performance of the car.
