We are looking for a Lead UX Engineer to join the team to play a critical role in designing software solutions to enhance and amplify the work of our Engineering and Operations groups. This Software Development role offers the unique opportunity to work with a highly specialised user base at Atlassian Williams Racing on state-of-the-art simulations, real time data, bespoke analysis tools, and enabling operational excellence. We view Software and Data as critical drivers in our mission to advance up the grid. Your contributions will have a tangible impact, both in our factory and on the track.
The Software Development group develops bespoke software to support our Engineering and Operations functions at Williams Racing. The group is composed of several software development teams that focus on areas such as Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics and Vehicle Performance.
We aim to leverage the right tools and technologies for the right job. We have a large estate of software including desktop applications, web applications and data visualisation and analysis tools. As part of our modernization journey, we are adopting cloud native technologies alongside modern data platforms.
Main duties:
Conduct research including workshops and user groups to understand the needs of a wide range of stakeholders across Williams Racing.
Identify personas and perform usability testing on new, existing and in-development applications to identify opportunities to improve UX.
Design intuitive user-friendly interfaces and test these by developing wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI mock-ups.
Collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to map business processes and user workflows to support the architectural design of systems, ensuring UX is aligned with business needs and technical constraints.
Validate UX decisions and optimize designs based on user feedback, analytics, behavioural insights, and A/B testing.
Champion user experience design, identifying opportunities across software and engineering teams and supporting growth of the discipline.
Manage and maintain design systems and component libraries, ensuring reusability and consistency across applications.
Ensure adherence to brand guidelines, typography, colour schemes, and overall design language across all platforms.
Promote inclusive design principles and accessibility within the design systems.
Skills and experience required:
Degree level qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
Extensive experience with Figma or equivalent tools e.g. Adobe XD or Sketch
Comfortable working with Miro and/or other collaborative whiteboarding platforms to lead workshops and capture requirements.
'User-first' mentality that always considers the end-user’s needs, pain points, and behaviours when making design decisions.
Strategic thinker who understands how UX design fits into business goals, product strategy and technical architecture.
Collaborative, curious, and analytical problem solving abilities, with the desire to continuously learn, test, and iterate using research and data to drive decision making.
Excellent communicator with the ability to absorb and convey complex processes and concepts.
Ability to work with a wide range of groups and disciplines in an agile, fast-paced environment; willing to adapt to rapidly evolving requirements.
Passionate about design systems, accessibility, usability, brand consistency and ensuring quality.
Desirable:
Front-end development in HTML, CSS & JavaScript (React preferred).
Working in an agile environment using Kanban/Scrum methodologies.
Experience in aerodynamics, data science, vehicle dynamics or computer simulations would be beneficial but not essential
