RegisterMeet Chloe Ward working in Operations
Behind every race car component is a machinist who got the setup right first time. We're looking for a Metallic Machinist (Turner) to join our Machine Shop, turning components on Fanuc controlled lathes and turn-mill machine tools to support both the race car and our external customers. If you know your way around a lathe and take real pride in a clean first-off, this is your workshop.
What you'll be doing:
- Producing components in the most efficient, cost effective way, keeping lead times to a minimum.
- Collaborating with Toolpath Programming to solve first-off machining problems and suggest improvements to quality or runtime.
- Working with fellow machinists and other areas of the business to establish and use best practice.
- Inspecting first-off components thoroughly, confirming correctness before running the rest of the batch to the same standard.
- Recording shop floor data accurately using Data Collection Software.
- Handing over clearly and accurately between shifts, in writing and in person, to protect production time.
- Logging job information in the handover notebook so future demand runs smoothly.
- Sharing ideas for more efficient or effective production with your Supervisor/Team Leader.
For almost 50 years, Williams F1 Team has been at the forefront of one of the fastest sports on the planet, being one of the top three most successful teams in history competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With an almost unrivalled heritage of engineering and racing F1 cars and unforgettable eras that demonstrate it is a force to be reckoned with, the British squad boasts 16 F1 World Championship titles to its name.
Since its foundation in 1977 by the eminent, late Sir Frank Williams and engineering pioneer Sir Patrick Head, the team has won nine Constructors’ Championships, in association with Cosworth, Honda and Renault. Its roll call of drivers is legendary, with its seven Drivers’ Championship trophies being lifted by true icons of the sport: Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. The team has made history before and is out to make it again with a long-term mission to evolve and return to the front of the grid.
What you'll bring:
- A strong knowledge of setting and operating Fanuc controlled lathes and turn-mill machine tools.
- The ability to run multiple machines and plan ahead as standard practice.
- Good depth of machining knowledge, both CNC and manual, in a low volume, high accuracy, fast paced prototype environment.
- The ability to program manually and/or conversationally is advantageous.
- A good level of knowledge manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components from aircraft grade metals and high quality engineering plastics.
- Ideally, a recognised apprenticeship or relevant experience in a precision engineering environment (preferably F1).
This role operates on a weekend shift, Friday to Sunday, working 06:30 to 18:30.
This job description is not exhaustive, and the job holder will be required to carry out from time-to-time tasks in addition to the above that will be both reasonable and within their capabilities.
