We are looking to recruit a CAM Programmer/Machine Operator - Night Shift to join our Prototype Machine Shop producing complex components for our Wind Tunnel model, associated jigs and fixtures used in our testing department and from time-to-time components for the race car. This is a varied role in an exciting environment and to succeed you will need to be adaptable, demonstrate initiative along with the ability to work collaboratively to meet tight deadlines. Our department objective is to produce key parts in the most efficient, cost-effective way, maintaining tight delivery deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
As a CAM Programmer/Machine Operator, your key responsibilities will be:
- To produce high quality components in a time effective manner to meet the demands required to support the development and production for the Formula One race car and external customers.
- To ensure components are produced in the most efficient, cost-effective way whilst keeping lead-times to a minimum.
- To be pro-active in continuous improvement across all the department’s activities and interfaces with other parts of the business.
- To promote a positive working environment.
- To carry out CAM programming and machining operations as directed by the Supervisor/Team Leader ensuring that all steps are taken to meet given deadlines.
- Ensure that the Supervisor/Team Leader is kept informed when programming/machining problems are causing delays.
- To proactively liaise with fellow programmers and machinists and other areas within the business to ensure best practice is established and utilised.
- Carry out all possible inspection during the machining of any first off components, establish that a first off is correct and ensure that the remainder of the batch meets the same standard.
- Ensure that all relevant shop floor data is collected and is accurately recorded using Data Collection Software when required.
- Ensure communication to other shifts is thorough and accurate so that a smooth handover results in minimum loss in production time using written and verbal communication as necessary.
- All information pertaining to the running of the job must be clearly and accurately recorded to ensure the smooth running of future demand using the preferred handover notebook.
- Communicate ideas and suggestions regarding more efficient/effective production to the Supervisor/Team Leader.
We are looking for a CAM Programmer/Machine Operator with the following skills and experience:
- A recognised apprenticeship or relevant experience in a similar environment.
- A good level of knowledge manufacturing components from aircraft grade metallics and high-performance engineering plastics.
- A good understanding of manufacturing complex components in small quantities.
- Knowledge of Siemens NX CAD/CAM would be advantageous.
- A strong knowledge of setting and operating Fanuc/Siemens controlled machining centres preferable but not essential.
- Be able to demonstrate a good depth of machining knowledge, both CNC and manual, in a low volume, high accuracy, fast paced prototype environment.
- Operationally you will ideally have experience with 3 and 5 axis machining centres and be able to operate the machines to a high level of accuracy whilst working to tight deadlines. Your offline programming skills will be utilised on our Siemens NX CAM package as the roll requires you to see the job through from start to finish.
- Effective organisation and communication skills are a necessity along with a proactive approach to using procedures that encourage continuous improvement.
- Take pride in the work and be capable of working with a minimum of supervision.
- Attention to detail whilst displaying a ‘can do’ attitude.
- A high degree of flexibility, self-motivation, team ethic and initiative are critical for success in this role.
